What a Wonderful World it Could Be...

The night of November 4,2008 was more than I expected. Throughout this election process I had my doubts that this win would be or could be possible. Now I can finally say, after 8 years of oppression, that I am proud to be an American. It could be that this sentiment is an entirely new one for me. America has spent years, even decades, without a truly great leader. America has been a stagnant country - a country bored to tears with the rehashing of the same old politics in various disguises, all to the benefit of of the corporate giants that have been the real puppeteers holding all the strings. The rich remained very comfortably rich and got ever richer, meanwhile the rest of us have unwittingly allowed this disparity to run unchecked as deregulated markets and predatory lending had disillusioned us; relentlessly fostering a society that values materialism and the impossible achievement of personal and physical perfection. But for what in return? Our return is debt, and at an extremely high interest rate. Are we all really so shocked to witness this kind of American Dream collapsing? At what point would we say that what we have is enough? The creditors certainly wouldn't want you to believe that and neither would Bloomingdales.
I watched the glowing faces in the crowds of Chicago, San Francisco, Washington D.C., all the way to Seattle bubbling over with one very loud sigh of relief, filled with a renewed sense of hope for our future. This historical event can best be felt through their eyes - black and white, rich and poor, young and old, and yes, even straight and gay; that we may now finally see each other as one people, all wanting the very same things for ourselves and for our loved ones. I turned off my television late last night with an awesome feeling of calmness that I've never quite felt before. America has spoken. Power to the people!

We can only hope that Obama lives up to everyones expectations.hello..Well, it would be very unwise for him ( and for the whole Democratic party in general ) to disappoint us, wouldn't you say? Thanks for reading and commenting!( sorry I didn't see this earlier )Jennifer

Please, tell me what is it like to wake up after 8 years of "oppression". I have never lived in an "oppressed country. Was there more food on the table? Less checkpoints and searches to go through? No more armed militia to eye you up and check your papers as you walk down the street? How did you celebrate, did you go buy some new shoes?Oppression meaning living under the regime of a President who I thought was grossly inadequate, a cheater, and an oil profiteer that was heavily involved in insider trading.Other than that, I have no idea what your questions are supposed to mean. You can think whatever you want, Flubug.Have a nice day!
forgot phony, too!And that's Flubug if that is indeed your real name and not a metaphor..
Hi Jennifer,Thankfully you and a majority of your fellow US citizens voted for the right guy this time round. I think that everyone here in the UK breathed a huge, collective sigh of relief. There is of course a lot of expectation as well as anticipation but some hope at least, at last. I/we all greatly miss your MySpace presence too!Love from Justin xJustin, Justin, Justin!!Hi sweetie,I will write to you and tell you why I've gone. I wanted to say something sooner, but you hardly log in anymore..I miss you too. You just made my day!I will write!xxo
Thanks for writing this, Jennifer. I am very glad Senator Obama took the favor of the majority of American voters. We did the right thing, for once. The Bush Presidency years are the longest running serial disaster of my 50 years. Even Nixon knew enough to bring the senseless, imperialistic Vietnam Invasion to its ignoble conclusion.Obama's was not just an American victory, but a human one. As for the American dream, we must continue to be optimistic that we can resuscitate it from its coma.p.s. - Forget all that "end times" hysteria fear mongering, instead, put your faith in the "Beginning Times" optimism of a revived age. If some wish so badly for an "end of times," well that's their personal choice. Just don't thrust your paranoia on the rest of us.Thank you for reading and commenting! And I wholeheartedly agree with you. I mean, must we be suspicious of any leader who's got the balls to actually stand up against this corporate domination, and actually stick up for the little people. Or should we just keep on voting for the same B.S'ers who've lied to us, exploited us, and allowed deregulated markets such as energy in the guise of Enron, to impose these false blackouts, etc.. That was just one example of how Capitalism can abuse us when left to their own ( allegedly ) market driven greed. Greed should never be underestimated.
