Very interesting observations, Jennifer. As Americans, we need a lot more introspection regarding how our "culture" is viewed in other countries. In general, we are extremely arrogant about the "rightness" of our way of life and do not listen to any other viewpoint very well.

I recently viewed a documentary regarding the state of Christianity in Iraq. The irony was thick. Under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein, he did not tolerate fighting amongst the religious factions which forced them to live together in peace. Under American control, literally, all hell has broken loose which has resulted in the Christians being gunned down in the streets and sometimes even in their own homes. The result of "freedom" is that Christianity has virtually disappeared from the country. The only ones who remain are too young, too old, or too sick to flee. It is an understatement to say that they do not feel that we have liberated them from anything.

Wow! I did not know that. Could you let me know the name of that documentary?

Millions of innocent Iraqi citizens lives have been destroyed, and there is no safety or stablility for anyone there. If you think our economy is bad..try being an Iraqi citizen.

Thanks,
Jennifer

It was done by 60 Minutes. They were talking with the head of the Catholic church in Baghdad and interviewing some of the remaining Christians. I'll try to see if the have it posted online somewhere and let you know. Jean

We've unfortunately created a hotbed for terrorism there. There is a very enlightening documentary about the failure of the reconstruction of Iraq ( or should I say, lack thereof) called 'No End in Sight.'

I believe that the author is right about her comments and conclusion of the unfortunate and still going war in Iraq.
Also i conclude that Mr Sharansky was broadley mistaken by his false imagination and enthusiasm in supporting the war.
The loss is on both sides, is it worth it, who is going to pay the price, it is the American people, the young soldiers and their families,  so we are paying now, look to what happening to our economy, Also the Iraqi people who are and will continue to pay and suffer, they will never enjoy the western democracy, their loss is in enjoying their freedom, happiness, and wellfare, to those who misled the American administration to fight this war, i say they are the ones who lost their concious and any sense of mercy or sympathy to their brothers and sisters.

Hello Anonomyous,

That is a good question..Is it worth it? It seems to me that all we have accomplished is the dying of American soldiers and the killing of innocent Iraqi's who had nothing to do with 9/11.

I also find it ironic that we were the ones who had supported Saddam Hussein, and there are films showing Donald Rumsfield gleefully shaking hands with Saddam during the Iran/Iraq war.

As if the sanctions that we had imposed were not bad enough on the Iraqi people, and now we have destroyed their economy and infrastructure? Can we really expect them to welcome us now with open arms? Of course they are distrustful and angry.
